IOP vs PHP

To most people, IOP and PHP may seem like just a random grouping of letters. But for those in recovery, we know this means Intensive Outpatient Program and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). To go into more detail, an Intensive Outpatient Program is outpatient treatment for those in recovery.

This means patients can still get the help that they need both medically and psychologically, but not have to spend an overnight stay or a few days in a treatment facility. In this type of treatment, patients still must attend counseling, therapy, and other treatment sessions to help them in their recovery but can also hold a job or go to school.

IOP is not for everyone. It is not for those going through the acute stages of withdrawal. They should be someone who can be prepared and be trusted to be okay on their own, and not have to be closely watched. This method is great for those who are ready to start moving back into their usual routine.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) requires more visits and more sessions a week compared to IOP. PHP is like recovery programs that require you to stay onsite full time.

PHP is recommended for people who may need that extra help and a hands-on approach. People who enter a PHP program tend to know they are at a higher chance of relapsing and still have intense cravings they don’t feel 100% comfortable with yet.

At Reprieve, we collaborate with many other facilities that offer Detoxification, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), and residential services such as Inpatient Programs. We can place you or your loved one in a higher level of care until it’s appropriate to join our program.
