It is estimated 2.2 million children and adolescents have been affected by the nation’s opioid epidemic in 2017 and that number will rise to 4.3 million by 2030. These figures were published by the United Hospital Fund (UHF) and Boston Consulting Group;The Ripple Effect: National and State Estimates of the U.S. Opioid Epidemic’s Impact on Children. This chartbook also lists 10 priority strategies that can help children affected by opioids. Across the U.S. in 2017, the analysis says there were an estimated 28 opioid-affected children per 1,000 and displays rates by state ranging from 54 in West Virginia to 20 in California.
